​​How to get started with exercise and actually enjoy it!

Exercise is important not only to aid in your weight loss efforts, but for your overall health. Studies show that exercise reduces the risk of heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, and other diseases. It’s also proven to reduce stress, lift your mood, and help you sleep better.

Now if you are anything like I was 8 years ago, the thought of exercise brings thoughts of pain, anxiety, fear of not doing it right. I was 100 pounds overweight at the time and exercise was something that I wanted to do, but physically it was hard.

I couldn’t run because my knees hurt. I couldn’t breathe because my lungs and cardiovascular system was so out of shape. My heart would race and I didn’t know if that was normal or if I was actually going to have a heart attack.

I was recently divorced and was now a single mother. I knew that I had to change my situation because my WHY was being around and present in my daughters life. I was all she had.  I had to decide what was more important? Getting healthy, losing weight and being a good role model to her or sitting in front of the television, eating junk food instead of facing my fears about exercise?

The obvious choice… Get out of my own way and do it! So I made a commitment to myself that I would learn how to start exercising in a way that didn’t make me anxious… That didn’t have me immediately associating pain with exercise.

It was time to shift my belief from “Exercise = Pain” to “Exercise = Pleasure”.


The most rapid way to shift a belief is:

  • ​​Do the deed in a new way that creates a new thought about it.
  • ​​Then say new words that reflect your new thought about it.
  • ​​Then be willing to continually choose new thoughts about the deed.

How I changed the way that I thought about exercise using the above 3 steps was a simple mindset trick.

This trick worked for me in about 4 days and ultimately helped me to lose 100 pounds! I want to share with you the exact strategy that I used to change my belief (exercise = pain) to exercise = pleasure.
